The Troyan Monastery
The Troyan Monastery is the third largest and one of the most famous monasteries in Bulgaria. It is a remarkable cultural monument with its architecture, carvings and amazing wall paintings, work by Zachary Zograf. In the monastery church "St. Mother of God" is kept and the most famous miraculous icon "Holy Mother of God Troeruchitsa".
The temple festival of the monastery is on 15 August, when the Orthodox Church honors the Dormition of St. Mother of God. Traditionally, the festive services in the monastery on this day are headed by the Bulgarian Patriarch.
WALNUT NATIONAL ARTS AND CRAFTS EXHIBITION
National Exhibition of Arts and Crafts – Oreshak is the only one in the country, in whose exhibition halls unique items of folk arts and crafts are displayed, made by distinguished masters from all ethnographic regions of Bulgaria. Exhibitions of masters of folk art crafts and applied arts are organized monthly at the National Exhibition, where visitors are given the opportunity to actually participate in the making of handicrafts and objects.
NATURAL SCIENCE MUSEUM – BLACK EIGHT
Visitors to the Natural History Museum in the village of Cherni Osam can see the great diversity of the animal world in Stara Planina. In the three halls of the museum, all the inhabitants of the Trojan Balkans and some typical species of the Bulgarian fauna - mammals are presented, birds, reptiles, insects.
THE PLUM FESTIVAL
It began at the National Exhibition of Folk Art Crafts in the village of Oreshak in 1993 year. From 1997 year the holiday is held in parallel in the city of Troyan and the National Exhibition. It is traditionally held in the last week of September. It is connected with the main livelihood of the Troyan region - the cultivation of plum culture, production of Trojan plum brandy and other plum products.
