The whole valley where the fortress is located, covers an area of approximately 4 square kilometers.
St. Yoan – ancestor – trails
The monastery is located in the area of Zelenikovets in the Trojan part of the Balkan Mountains, about 8 km southeast of the Troyan Monastery, about 5 km south of the village of Cherni Osam.
The monastery was founded in 1832 by the then abbot of the Troyan Monastery Partenii. Shortly after that it was burned down, and during the April Uprising it was destroyed by the Turkish troops in pursuit of the detachment of Philip Totyu. In 1913 the monastery was rebuilt and in 1914 the new church was consecrated. The iconostasis was made by master Philip the Macedonian, who is a representative of the Debar school.
Beklemeto – trails
The Troyan Pass (also known as Beklemeto) is a mountain pass in the western part of the Troyan-Kalofer section of the Balkan Mountains with a height of 1526 m.
Through it passes a road, among the highest in the Balkan Mountains, which connects the village of Karnare (South Bulgaria) with the town of Troyan (North Bulgaria). There are many sharp turns. The view is incredible. The passage is one of the main roads connecting North and South Bulgaria. It is long just under 50 km with the highest point being 1526 meters above sea level (Beklemeto).
Kozya Stena is located in the village of Chiflik, Troyan Municipality. The area of the reserve is 904.3 ha and its territory there located are the phenomenon kozya stena /goat wall/ and other rock formations, so the reserve has a variety of raptors. The area in which the reserve is located is steep and difficult to access because it is located in the steepest parts of the northern slopes of the Balkan Mountain.
During its existence the reserve has repeatedly changed its borders and now it is one of the largest reserves in the National Park “Central Balkan”. It area is over 3,500 hectares. It covers the whole upper stream of the Cherni Osam River. The site offers the opportunity to study nature without the impact of man.
The relief of the reserve is highly segmented and varied. In the area “Haydushko igralo” and “Bivola” there are sheer cliffs with a height of 150 meters. In the reserve you can be seen rock formations with fantastic shapes, as well as caves, cavities in the rocks and others. Within the Stenoto there is a gorge with the same name. The area has well developed karst base, which is a prerequisite for the formation of karst caves and other karst formations. In the reserve you can see one of the longest karst caves in Bulgaria – Kumanitsa, which has a length of nearly 2,000 meters. Here you can find the deepest cave in the country – Raichova dupka, with its depth of 377 meters.
